This is only an indicative list. Ayurveda primarily treats the individual patient and not the disease. Hence depending on the patient and all the variables that affect the patient including (but not limited to) age, gender, location, diet, lifestyle, habits, relationships, emotional state and willpower, the treatment program is planned and the benefits accrue accordingly. It is also ideal when the patient is able to achieve a reasonable shift in diet and lifestyle when he/she goes back home; it is in the three months period immediately following the treatment that much of the benefit is seen. This benefit continues when the diet and lifestyle is moderated and the patient lives in awareness.

Generally treatment programs vary from periods ranging between 3 - 8 weeks or more depending on the individual need. Treatments given include panchakarma (vamana, virechana, kashaya vasti, taila vasti, nasya), abhyanga, shirodhara, pizhichil, navarakizhi, shirovasti, shirolepa, takradhara, ela kizhi, podi kizhi, navara kizhi, ksheera kizhi - and other such treatments as are deemed appropriate based on the particular medical need of the patient.

During the treatment, all patients are advised to take maximum physical and mental rest. The more the rest, the better the healing. The intake of food is also similarly restricted to simple diet vegetarian food in essential quantity.

The treatment includes internal herbal medicines, external body therapies (as applicable) and lots of rest.

A typical day at vaidyagrama includes -

0545 - intake of herbal decoction (as decided by physicians)
0615 to 0715 - chanting of mantras, Agnihotra fire ceremony, meditation, OM chanting
0800 to 0900 - breakfast
0730 to 1230 - consultation with physicians / treatments as scheduled / rest
1100 to 1130 - herbal tea / coconut water
1230 to 1330 - lunch followed by herbs (where applicable)
1330 to 1400 - yoga nidra
1430 to 1800 - consultation with physicians / treatments as scheduled / rest
1545 to 1615 - herbal tea / coconut water
1730 to 1800 - intake of herbal decoction (as decided by physicians)
1730 to 1815 - satsang or group discussion with the physicians
1815 to 1900 - chanting of mantras, Agnihotra fire ceremony, meditation, OM chanting
1900 to 2000 - dinner followed by herbs (where applicable)
2100 - bedtime

Generally, every patient gets an external body treatment program lasting for between 60-90 minutes every day. There are however days when the body treatments are not given based on the condition of the patient as assessed by our physicians. Further on days of the menstrual cycle (for lady patients), the treatments and herbs are not given since this is a period of natural cleansing which should not be interfered with. Hence during this period the patient is advised to rest as much as possible, and only where absolutely essential are any treatments/herbs given on the days of the menstrual cycle.

In addition to the above program, once a week the following activities also take place -
Tuesday 1530 to 1630 - cooking demonstration
Thursday 1900 to 2000 - group dinner

This is an indicative schedule - the timings and activities are subject to change based on the treatment program and season.
